Diversion

The diversion process provides rehabilitation for the accused, clans, families and the community. The Health and Social Development Department coordinates diversion processes, which are based on Haa Kusteeyí (‘Our Way’) with a focus on communal rehabilitation.

Pre-Charge

The pre-charge process can occur following minor offences, before a charge has been laid. The process involves Clan and family members working towards repairing harm.

Post-Charge

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (the Crown) can refer an accused TTC Citizen to the TTC’s diversion process. Through the successful completion of the process, charges are stayed and clients do not get a criminal record. This process is important for allowing Tlingit forms of retribution and healing.

Advocacy

The Advocacy Worker assists victims of crime through the legal system. We provide a referral service for the victims and can accommodate confidential counselling services to meet individual, family or community needs.  We recognize the importance of community healing and coordinates healing and grievance camps as needed.
