Dluwkat Hit Daycare - Early Learning Childcare Centre (ELCC)

The Dluwkat Hit Daycare - Early Learning Childcare Centre’s (ELCC) promotes the early learning of Tlingit language and culture through Head Start programming. Aboriginal Head Start is a child development program provided in part by the Public Health Agency of Canada. The first five years of a child’s life are important.

In Teslin, Head Start is free and provides an education program for children ages 3 to 4, based on traditional Tlingit culture, language and values in an enriched and fun environment that unites parents, families and community. It includes six key elements – parental involvement, culture and language, education, health promotion, nutrition and social support. It runs year round at the Early Learning and Child Care Centre.

Pre-Natal Program

The program is open to expectant mothers and families with children up to five years of age. Emphasis is put on healthy choices for mothers and their families such as breastfeeding. Lunches for mother with children under 5 are offered throughout the year. In addition, mothers may receive gift vouchers to purchase healthy nutritional items at the local store.

Visit the ELCC or contact the Prenatal Coordinator at 390-2532 ext. 371.

Child Assessments and Therapy

Through the Health and Social Development Department’s partnership with the Yukon Child Development Centre (CDC), child assessment and therapy sessions can be arranged in Teslin.

Therapies available through the CDC include Development Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Therapy. Assessments involve play-based techniques, and help to create the next educational steps for your child.
